Dear Reader,
Correspondences is a forthcoming limited-edition, letterpress release from Hotel St. George Press. It contains three accordion books comprising six stories, and a seventh story printed on the four flaps of its unfolding casing. This story is called What He’s Poised to Do and it requires your participation to be brought fully to life. (Click on the title of the story to read it.) You will find that it relates the tale of a man who walks out on his marriage and reconsiders it from a distance. The man is staying in a hotel. While he is there, he writes and receives a number of postcards. Some carry messages of love, others messages of regret, others still are confessions or rationalizations. There are nine postcard messages in all, not a single one of which is actually reprinted in the text of the story. That’s where you come in. Pick one of the postcard-points, which are indicated in the text with bracketed numbers: [1], [2], [3], etc. Ideally, pick one that reminds you of a situation from your past—perhaps you have been the source of someone else’s emotional pain, perhaps you are an expert at seduction. Write your message on the back of the special Hotel St. George postcard. Or, if you do not have a Hotel St. George Postcard, any card will do. Circle or indicate the number that corresponds to the postcard-point to which you are writing. Send the card in to Hotel St. George Press | 442-D Lorimer Street #108 | Brooklyn, NY | 11206. Your message, this fragmentary piece of literature, becomes the property of the broader project, and may well be included in future editions of Correspondences. You may even find it presented here. Good luck.
Yours,
The Postmaster
