Born out of the cassette tape culture of the 1980s, the Tellus series was an audio magazine created in the Lower East Side of New York City. It took as its inspiration the low-fi aesthetic that had emerged from the punk movement a decade earlier. The DIY process of duplicating cassettes made it easy to record and share music with likeminded souls. Tellus included early works by avant-garde artists such as Sonic Youth, Spalding Gray and David Wojnarowicz. Hotel St. George is proud to present a few selections from the magazine’s ten year run.
