Richard Kostelanetz, whose work in visual poetry and the avant-garde has been keeping New York interesting for years – here, for example, he interviews John Cage – submitted this piece titled “Endings: A Collection of Closing Sentences (of Otherwise Nonexistent Stories)”. I took it and remade it in Processing, making it interactive. If you need an ending to your story, there’s one for you here.

If the first ending doesn’t work for you, click “Another end” for another one. If this Java applet doesn’t work for you, you can download a standalone application:
- Mac OS X application (zip file, 311 kb)
- Windows application (zip file, 287 kb)
- Linux application (zip file, 279 kb)
All of these are zipped; unzip them, then run TheEnd (on a Mac), TheEnd.exe (on a PC), or TheEnd (on Linux).
